2011 mac mini hard drive upgrade6/29/2023 Getting to the hard-disk of the Mac Mini was very difficult. So I took one last full backup of Time Machine to open up the Mac Mini. My only issue was that while I have been taking backup, I have never tried to restore a full OS from a backup. Lacie D2 Quadra has been my ‘Time Machine’ and it does a fantastic job of backing up really fast through the ‘Firewire 800’ port. Mac Mini has been my primary machine, while I have been using Macbook Pro more for mobility. So, most importantly I wanted to make sure I have a good backup of everything I had in it. If the upgrade fails, I’d try to put back the 160GB drive and if that fails, I’d enjoy the Mac Mini as a big coaster. So finally I ordered a Samsung 500GB drive (Model: Spinpoint MP4 HM500JJ) and I started the ‘operation’. Having upgraded the RAM (memory) previously, I wanted to give a shot with the hard-disk as well. ![]() The minute build of Mac Mini and the fear of screwing up something had been keeping me away from this endeavor. I had been wanting to upgrade the hard-disk for a while. ![]() My Mac Mini (2009 Model) came with a 160GB hard-disk, which was barely sufficient for me.
